Call to participate: The Placeholder project on financial tactics for cultural managers

"The Placeholder" is a year-long, Europe-wide review of innovative, plug-in financial tactics that many cultural organisations develop in order to stretch their resources. The project is funded by Tandem Europe and was initiated by two small cultural organisations in different parts of the Europe that both have felt the pressure of dwindling funds, and realised that there is need for immediate practical skillshare between organisations in similar situations. "The Placeholder" is interested in non-institutional, unusual, informal methods from users' point of view, and as a peer-to-peer outcome will compile an archive of the tested, annotated tactics that will be accessible to all. Deadline for participation is 31 May 2016.

Funding is probably the single most pressing topic for majority of European cultural organisations. While the political and economic conditions offer little support for cultural activity, cultural actors are finding new, creative ways to fund or at least co-fund their activities. In other words, they are developing new financial tactics. As a directory of new fundig tactics for European cultural actors, the Placeholder is a peer-to-peer skillshare project that maps innovative tactics to funding by European cultural actors.

Based on an initial short online questionnaire and further consultation with willing participants on their financial tactics, the project will develop a directory of financial tactics to help cultural managers get new ideas on ways to go after additional funding. The directory will show what works and what not, what kind of resources cultural managers need to initiate a tactic, and to what extent a new tactic can help them secure the space they need for their activities. As a further results the project will define what tactics and topics need further exploration, and create a free, open source online database of financial tactics.

Deadline for participation is 31 May 2016

The project team wants the data to be relevant and timely, and focus on the transferrable model of the tactic, not on financial details of the organisations. The data will be treated with great care and are used for this project only. The team will not give away any information without your consent.
