Over the course of 2 days, 5 panels and 12 forum sessions, this years German Federal Congress on Cultural Policy under the issue "World. Culture. Politics. Cultural Policy and Globalisation" addresses globalisation and its challenging effects on cultural policy. We find ourselves at a turning point. The past decades have seen fundamental changes in society, culture, states, global economy and trade. Increasing interconnectivity has blurred national borders and nation states define themselves as parts of international networks. But globalisation not only intensifies the global dimension of domestic economy and politics. It also implies far-reaching consequences for culture and cultural policy.

The congress is organized by the German Association for Cultural Policy (Kulturpolitische Gesellschaft e.V.) and the German Federal Agency for Civic Education (Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung) in cooperation with the German Association of Cities (Deutscher Städtetag), the Goethe-Institut and the German Institute for Foreign Relations (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen, ifa).

It is supported by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, Monika Grütters, who will open the congress.

Amongst the other speakers are German Federal Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel, writer Pankaj Mishra (GB/India), Nana Adusei Poku (Rotterdam/Berlin), Wolfgang Merkel (Berlin), Léontine Meijer-van Mensch (Berlin/Amsterdam), Ulrike Guérot (Krems), Naeema N. Butt (Lahore, Pakistan), Harald Welzer (Berlin), Ekaterina Degot (Cologne/Moscow), Ib Cristensen (Aarhus, DK), Ian Ward (Birmingham), Milo Rau (Cologne), Renzo Martens (Brussels/Kinshasa) and many others.
Translation for English speaking guests will be provided.
