The Power of Education
For centuries, education was the privilege of an elite. Partly thanks to the internet, access to education has entered a process of democratisation. More people are educated and therefore more people go to museums. But in the meantime, expectations have changed: the public is looking for a social and an entertaining experience rather than an intellectual visit.

The role of museums has been transformed from a sanctuary of knowledge to a place of exchange of ideas. Has education become a communication strategy or is it still at the core of our mission? For many, education is a social responsibility, sometimes to raise funds, most of the time to reach communities and new audiences.

This new CTM conference unites scholars, communication experts, fundraisers, and scientists to share genuine education programmes from all around the world. We will explore the new paradigms of education and the best ways to lead meaningful achievements, inside and outside our walls.

During 4 days, the 300 participants of the conference will analyse trends, share best practices and answer the following questions:

  • How do you get educators, curators and communicants to work together?
  • How to address the needs of your community?
  • How can museums learn from their public?
  • How can museum transform the field through learning, community building, and innovative practice?
  • How to train the current and future museum professionals?
The CTM programme inclucdes amongst others

  • keynotes, workshops and panel discussions to learn from the peers at the Louvre on the 1st day of the CTM
  • a Gala Reception at la Monnaie de Paris on the 2nd day
  • two SAFARI-days to discover four key Parisian institutions and to learn about their communication and education strategy on the 21st - 22nd of June
