ACE Award for his outstanding contributions to cultural management in Canada

WATERLOO, Jan 10 Jamie Grant, General Manager of the Centre in the Square, has been awarded the 2007 ACE Award for his outstanding contributions to cultural management in Canada. The award will be officially presented at the Associations annual general meeting on Thursday January 17th at the Textile Museum of Canada in Toronto.
I have been a member of the Association since 1987 when you had to apply for membership and I remember how thrilled I was when my membership was accepted. I feel very much the same way today, to be given this award 20 years later. Im truly honoured! says Jamie.

Jamie has been a leader and innovator in the profession for many years and the results of his leadership have fundamentally changed many aspects of the way we do business in Canada commented Dan Donaldson, President of ACE, of Jamies contribution to the field of cultural management in Canada.

Noticing a lack of Canadian touring theatre, Jamie solicited support from Canada Council for the Arts to invest in a brainstorming session on this topic. This resulted in the establishment of a national theatre festival, the Magnetic North Theatre Festival, of which Jamie became a founding member.
Seeing no young people in the audience at his theatre, Jamie helped to establish what has become eye-GO to the Arts, a program designed to encourage youth to attend the performing arts. Jamie helped develop an operating model, brand, business plan, and not-for-profit organization that still flourishes today as a national program.
During Jamie's tenure in New Brunswick at the Imperial Theatre, he brought together fellow presenters to work on a block booking model to strengthen touring opportunities in Atlantic Canada and thereby creating the Atlantic Presenters Association. The block-booking model he was instrumental in establishing is now used throughout the country.
Jamie has taught An Introduction to Cultural Management at the University of Waterloo for the past five years, motivating and inspiring a whole new generation of cultural managers through his teaching. Beyond that, he is a regular lecturer, panelist and guest speaker for other universities, colleges, and professional conferences and he is quickly becoming a sought-after consultant.

The ACE Award is presented each year to a member of the Association of Cultural Executives (ACE), Canadas only national, cross-disciplinary professional organization of cultural leaders working in heritage, performing and visual arts.
