Beijing's 'China International Music Market' (CIMM) cancelled
Hong Kong, 7 February 2007... The China International Music Market (CIMM), scheduled for 17 - 20 May 2007 in Beijing, has received widespread support from the musical products industry, and attention from the professional media both in China and all over the world since its launch in August 2006. The fair's organizing committee, comprised of the China Music Instrument Association (CMIA), NAMM, the International Music Products Association, INTEX Shanghai and Messe Frankfurt, has been actively promoting the fair since this time, and have received a great deal of positive feedback about the event concept.
Despite this positive feedback, the organizing committee has cancelled the exhibition, pending the clarification of issues regarding the fair license to operate (a mandatory requirement for all fairs in mainland China).
In late September 2006 it transpired that a number of exhibition licenses had been issued to different exhibition organizers through various issuing authorities for musical products exhibitions in Beijing in May 2007. Pending an investigation by the licensing authorities into how this situation affects the market as a whole, the organizing committee of CIMM decided to slow down preparatory and promotional works for the event.
With only four months remaining until the fair's scheduled opening, there is still no clear conclusion or solution for coordinating all the music related events in Beijing, and promotional activities are still on hold. The four-party organizing committee of CIMM have therefore elected to cancel the event.
"It is an extremely regrettable decision, but one we feel we must make for the benefit of the MI industry in China and abroad," said Mr. Wang Gentian, President of the China Music Instrument Association. "We would like to express our sincere appreciation to all MI enterprises, organizations and professional media who have showed their support for our Beijing show."
All four parties are committed to producing a music products fair in Beijing, and will continue to work towards that goal. Developments will be announced as they occur.
