Berlin Conference for European Cultural Policy
On 26 and 27 November 2004, the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin will become the highly symbolic backdrop for the Berlin Conference A Soul for Europe. Arts Management Network will taking part on this event.
This conference is a civic initiative of individuals from different areas of society such as Jacques Delors, Bronislaw Geremek and Javier Solana. According to the organisers, the Berlin Conference is seeking to influence practical politics.
´It is important that better use be made of Europes cultural resources - both for the success of the internal process of unification and for Europes ability to act in the world. Culture must become the catalyst for all areas of politics. This process should be initiated principally by practical agreements between the political participants at the conference. In the long term, it could also contribute to the greater effectiveness of other cultural initiatives and networks. In order to achieve this aim, it is envisaged that at the end of the conference representatives of European politics will agree on practical steps to implement change: members and leaders of the European Parliament and national parliaments, members of the European Commission, the Council of Ministers and the Committee of the Regions, politicians working in the field of culture, European foundations and the umbrella organisations of European cultural initiatives, such as the European Cultural Foundation or the European Forum for the Arts and Heritage (EFAH)´.
