Funding for Arts in the Workplace
Thanks to a £12,150 funding award from Arts & Business, the University of Leicester Richard Attenborough Centre (RAC) is extending a recently developed partnership and setting up a programme of visual arts for HSBC staff at the nearby UK Commercial Service and Sales Centre in De Montfort Street...
HSBC Commercial Service and Sales Centre recently committed to exclusively sponsor four concerts per year for three years under the banner "A New Musical Generation at the RAC". Now the Richard Attenborough Centre and HSBC have received an investment from Arts & Business New Partners to further develop their creative partnership. Arts & Business New Partners is funded by the Arts Council of England and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
The Arts & Business funding will enable the Richard Attenborough Centre to put together a visual art programme with HSBC over the same three-year period. Regular exhibitions of work by RAC students and staff will be displayed in the HSBC building, where over 600 employees are based. In addition, on 4 March a programme of workshops in the visual arts will commence for HSBC staff, with topics to include painting and drawing, ceramics, sculpture and life drawing.
RAC Development Officer Steven Pegg said, "Arts & Business exists to help businesses and arts organisations develop more effective ways of working together, and this New Partners investment will significantly deepen our relationship with HSBC. It will allow the RAC to reach a brand new audience for its arts education activities, while at the same time helping HSBC to have a working environment where creativity is nurtured and valued.
"This whole enterprise has been fuelled by an overwhelmingly positive response to the idea from HSBC staff, who will now have the opportunity to work with the RAC and professional artists, developing new skills and making artwork that can then be exhibited in their own workplace. The quality of artists associated with the RAC, the Arts & Business New Partners funding, and the admirable commitment shown by HSBC as an employer are all coming together to make this possible."
As part of the project, the Richard Attenborough Centre will also address issues of disability awareness through the involvement of artists with disability in the exhibitions and as tutors in the workshop programme for HSBC staff. While open to everyone as an integrated arts and arts education centre, the RAC was established with the needs of disabled people at its heart.
