General Meeting of the European Festivals Association in Wroclaw
The General Meeting of the European Festivals Association, held in Wroclaw end of October, hosted by the International Festival Wratislavia Cantans, took unanimously the historical decision, after having celebrated the 50th anniversary of the foundation of EFA by a jubilee festival in 2002, to relocate the main office from Coppet (Switzerland) to Ghent/Brussels (Belgium) in 2004.
The delegates elected Gavin Henderson, Principal of the Trinity College of Music (London) and Artistic Director of the Dartington International Summer School as President.
Vice-Presidents are Darko Brlek, Director of the Ljubljana Festival and Jan Briers jr. Co-Director of the Festival of Flanders Ghent/Brussels.
The European Festivals Association, being today one of the most representative international cultural organizations, covers 93 international performing arts festivals in 30 countries, 11 national festival associations and 4 European artistic networks; altogether more than 500 festivals.
The International Izmir Festival, Aspendos International Opera and Ballet Festival, the Miskolc International Opera Festival "Bartok +..." and the European Early Music Network were integrated as new members.
Workshop discussions dealt with important projects funded by the European Union and with the latest report on research projects and international conferences on the position of performing arts festivals and on their relation to new audiences.
The annual program booklet "Festivals 2004" will be published by the end of February 2004.
More detailed information about the program of member festivals is also available on the web site.
In October 2004 the General Meeting will be hosted jointly by the BBC London Proms, the Dartington International Summer School and the British Arts Festivals Association (BAFA).
