Our grantees are not only furthering their art forms but also enhancing their neighborhoods by making them more vibrant, livable, and fun."
"This grant from the National Endowment for the Arts will enable the Arts Extension Service the opportunity to update The Fundamentals of Arts Management, a field-tested publication that offers local arts agency professionals the essential guidance they need to successfully operate their organizations," said Maren Brown, Director of the Arts Extension Service. "Recent research demonstrates that nearly half of our nations local arts agencies are volunteer run, and this greatly impacts their ability to respond to and deliver the services so essential to the communities they serve. Volunteers rarely receive the guidance and training they need to operate their organizations effectively. The Fundamentals book offers local arts agency professionals a starting point, providing step-by-step guidance, worksheets and accessible language that explain how to manage and govern their local arts agency and arts nonprofit organization. The text also serves new entrants to the field from other sectors, as well as those who are moving into new positions of responsibility.
"This grant will allow us to update ten chapters, including Marketing, Fundraising, Strategic Planning, Board Development, and Program Evaluation, plus add two new chapters, Greening the Arts Organization and Arts Policy," said Dee Boyle-Clapp, Program Coordinator of the Arts Extension Service. "Our faculty members are leaders in their field and bring their expertise to their work on the chapters that they will write and utilize in their work with local arts agencies and with our students. For example, Dr. Craig Dreeszen, Florence, MA is a national leader in strategic planning and community cultural planning, having completed hundreds of plans throughout the nation. His work with local arts agencies stretches back over thirty years, and he has created cultural plans for a long list of Local Arts Agencies and their regions. His experience as well as his passion for the latest scholarship of the field, is reflected in his chapter on strategic planning.
