Meeting Points
Meeting Points is an artistic event organized by the Young Arab Theatre Fund (YATF), the International Network for Contemporary Performing Arts (IETM ) and On the Move (OTM), in celebration of the anniversary of the Barcelona Process aiming to create connections and platforms for interaction amongst artists, cultural operators and programmers in the Euro-Med region.
Inaugurated in November of 1995 in a meeting that brought together representatives of 27 countries, the Barcelona Process seeks to turn the Euro-Mediterranean basin into an area of dialogue, exchange and co-operation guaranteeing peace, stability and prosperity (for further information please visit www.euromedrights.net/english/barcelona-process/main.html).
The project aims at aiding the creation of a new Mediterranean network for presenters and co-producers. The project consists of a performance tour of contemporary Arab performing artists to Beirut, Amman, Cairo, Alexandria, el Minya, Tunis and Damascus, as well as a special event in Damascus on December 1st to celebrate the anniversary of the Barcelona Declaration. The project includes research into the needs of contemporary Mediterranean artists and programmers, the creation of a special Meeting Points web site and newsletters and an IETM Satellite Meeting in Tangiers, Morocco, in February/March 2006.
The project receives the support European Delegation in Damascus, Swedish International Development Agency, Ford Foundation, Open Society Institute, Mondriaan Foundation.
