Meeting of experts on Training of Cultural Development Professionals in Africa
The meeting in Nairobi, 19 December 2002, was organised, on behalf of the Division of Cultural Policies of UNESCO, by the Regional Centre of Cultural Action (CRAC, Lomé, Togo) in the framework of a project aimed at stregthening the regional capacities of training specialized personnel in the field of cultural development and cultural polices for cultural development.
It took place with the participation of 13 experts representing specialized institutions of Botswana, Côte dIvoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania as well as UNESCO, the African Union and other organizations such as the African Academy of Languages (ACALAN, Bamako), the African Itenerant College for Culture and Development (AICCD/CIACD, Dakar), the CRC, the Market of African Performing Arts (MASA, Abidjan) and the Observatory of Cultural Policies in Africa (OCPA, Maputo).
On the basis of a preliminay report established by the CRAC, the meeting examined the following issues:
1. Mapping of the existing training capacities;
2. Identification of the professional profiles of cultural development professionals and the new needs;
3. Development of a regional co-operation network
