He is an expert on the cultural industries in the US, Europe and Japan, and a fellow of multiple research societies and academies. He has developed internationally recognized definitions of the cultural sector and has worked as a consultant or advisor for national and urban policy makers, the EU, UNESCO, UNCTAD, WIPO, and the British Council.
