15th International Conference of the Cultural Economists in Boston

The Association for Cultural Economics International (ACEI) is hosting the 15th International Conference on Cultural Economics at Northeastern University in Boston, from the evening of Thursday June 12th to Sunday June 15th 2008.

Conference papers will be concerned with all areas of the application of economics to the arts, heritage, media, cultural industries, cultural policy and related areas. Contributions will come from managers, policy-makers and practitioners working in the cultural sector as well as from scholars across the disciplines who share an interest in economics-related issues and questions concerning this field.

The efficacy of markets versus interventions in the provision of arts and culture will provide a theme at two of the conferences plenary sessions one an address by Tyler Cowen (George Mason University) on the economics of the arts and another a panel session on the music industry. In addition, Ruth Towse (Erasmus University, Rotterdam) will present an address as President of the Association. There will be a special plenary session to commemorate Mark Schuster and his seminal work Patrons Despite Themselves: Taxpayers and Arts Policy, with OHare and Feld.
